at the
Back Porch Church,
All you have to do
is
Laugh.
And to worship,
we sing-
it’s a choir full of
Classic Rock.
You will blend right in.
The only difference is
We are the one
giving the message to
God.
Our feet beating

Your Dementia
is so dedicated.
He works
tirelessly,
never answering the phone,
never stopping to
sip his coffee
then have a smoke.
Instead,
he shreds.
He skips lunch.
He doesn’t call his wife back.
He wipes every memory
of me
out of you.
He tells you
I am my mother.
He tells you
you are alone.
He gives you
Absolution.
And I,
in my shame,
almost
Envy you
for the
Freedom.
